Dog Bandana Size Chart: How to Measure Your Dog or Cat (by Neck, Weight and Breed)
The parcel arrives. You open it on the kitchen floor while the dog supervises.
You fasten the bandana, step back, and it's perfect. Or it's sitting halfway down their chest.
The difference is five minutes with a piece of string. Here's how to get it right the first time.
How to measure your dog or cat
Wait until after a walk, when they're calm.
Wrap a ribbon or string around the neck, where a collar sits. Snug, not tight. You should be able to slide two fingers underneath.
Mark it, lay it flat and measure. Fluffy coat? Measure close to the skin.
Between two sizes, choose the larger one.

- Chihuahua, kittens: XS
- Yorkshire Terrier, most adult cats under 4.5 kg: S
- Pomeranian, larger cats: M
- Bichon Frise, Schnauzer: L
- Shiba Inu, Corgi: XL
- Golden Retriever: 2XL
- Samoyed: 3XL
- Alaskan Malamute: 4XL
Every dog is different. A fluffy Pomeranian and a slim one can be a size apart, so measure if you can.
Size for cats
Kittens are XS. Most adult cats are S if they're under 4.5 kg, and M if they're over.
Cats tend to accept a bandana faster than you'd expect. It sits like a collar, with nothing on the legs.
One exception: tailored suit styles
